History of the Examination Boards |
- The Board was originally setup in the year 1921.
- It was then reconstituted in the year 1962.
- It has since setup six regional offices in six states.
- Delhi Board of Secondary Education' was merged with the Central Board recognizing all educational institutions under it.

Mission statement & Main objectives |
- To prescribe conditions for examination and conduct Secondary / Sr. Secondary public examinations at the end of class X and XII. To grant qualifying certificates to successful candidates of the affiliated schools.
- To fulfill the educational requirements of those students whose parents were employed in transferable jobs.
- To prescribe and update the courses of instructions for examinations.

Curriculum Details for Standards VI to X |
- No set syllabus for Std VI - VIII, only guidelines prescribed by the board as per National Curriculum framework (NCF 2005).
- Detailed syllabus for the Std. IX is prescribed by the council.
- At the end of the Std X the All India Level Exam will be conducted. Syllabus with detailed scope and guidelines for each subject is prescribed by the board.

Curriculum Details for Standards XI to XII |
- A detailed syllabus is framed. Students choose to follow Arts, Science or Commerce.
- Std. XI exams are conducted by the school/college.
- Board exams are conducted for Std. XII
- Students are free to select any five subjects.
- 12th Standard different branches-Arts, Science, Commerce.
- 5 Subjects are to be selected out of almost a choice of 20 subjects.

Curriculum Development |
- Curriculum development and curriculum innovation have been the pursuit of the Board over the years to make the curriculum more meaningful, relevant and life-oriented.
- Accordingly review and updation of the syllabi at the secondary and the Senior School level were undertaken by the Academic Branch. The updated syllabi for secondary and senior school classes have been published for March 2005 examinations of the Board.
