Jump Start Activity 'Let's celebrate' - 2019

Let’s Celebrate – A jumpstart event was held on 9th November 2019at Podar International School, Ratnagiri to generate the curiosity and imagination among students of Grade I. Class party was arranged in the classroom.

All the students were dressed up in festive clothes and celebrated the flavours of all the festivals. They decorated the classroom and enjoyed the games such as ‘Musical chair’ and ‘Simon says’ etc.

They engaged themselves in the art and craft activity where they drew and coloured a picture of their favourite festival.

Through this jumpstart event, students got an opportunity to represent their imagination and creativity. They also understood the strength of unity.

Special Assembly 'Guru Nanak Jayanti' - 2019

Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab was celebrated at Podar International School, Ratnagiri, on Monday 11th November 2019. To celebrate this propitious festival, the students of Terra House organized a special assembly with great zeal.

The presentation began by paying salutations to Guruji by a hymn followed with Prabhat Pheri. A glimpse of this procession consisting of Gatka and a dance performance was observed by the students. The teacher’s talk highlighted the significance of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

The assembly concluded with Principal’s address highlighted teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and he also appreciated the move of both the governments of India and Pakistan for the Kartarpur Corridor linked to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

Express Yourself 'Design a way' - 2019

Under the theme of Design-A-Way! – Exploring the Process of Making and Unmaking, Podar International School, Ratnagiri organised ‘Express Yourself’ on 11th November, 2019. Students from Grades I to VIII participated actively and expressed themselves.

Students of Grades I and II participated in a collaborative activity that helped student’s build teamwork by helping them to learn how to work together and building trust.

Students of Grades III and IV thought and shared ‘Smashing Alternatives’ for everyday items. They thought of innovative ways to design multiple utilities for common reusable objects.

Students of Grades V and VI discussed if technology is a boon or a bane; if technology is making our lives more convenient or it’s just making us more dependent and lazy.

Students of Grades VII and VIII understood that without cooperation and Problem solving, collaboration is an exercise in futility.

Teamwork being the core skill of ‘design thinking’, students focussed on their skills of creative intelligence, communication and collaboration.

Mock Fire Drill - 2019

A mock fire and evacuation drill was conducted at Podar International School, Ratnagiri, on Friday, November 8, 2019, to create awareness among students and staff members to respond swiftly in times of emergency.

The members of the Fire Fighting Department were positioned at the key areas to guide and assist the students in the mock fire and evacuation drill.

The ‘evacuation’ operation began moments after the fire alarm rang out loud and alerted everyone. The students immediately evacuated their classrooms. Led by their teachers, they exited from various points to assemble in the front area and basketball ground as per directed in the Fire evacuation plan put in every class room.

Thereafter, the students and staff members were given training for usage of fire extinguishers and water sprays through hose pipes. They were made aware how to act responsibly during times of emergency. It was an essential life skills workshop and hands–on-experience for the students, keeping in mind their safety and security. The drill prepared them for emergency situations in the future.

Diwali Art and Craft Activity - 2019

From darkness to light, that empowers us to commit ourselves to good deeds, that which brings us closer too divinity, togetherness and hope. Students of Podar International School, Ratnagiri on 18th October,2019 completely immersed themselves in the Diwali preparations by making lanterns, decorating Diyas and making greetings. The happy and smiling faces brought out the essence of the festival celebration.

Special Assembly 'Diwali Celebration' - 2019

The exhilaration and celebratory spirit that Diwali brings is unmatchable. To add to the festive fervour, students of Podar International School Ratnagiri presented a special assembly on Diwali on 18th October, 2019. Decorated in vibrant hues, the school had an ambience of joy and happiness.

The assembly commenced with a thought that emphasized the greatest significance of Diwali that is to light new and colourful dreams and fresh hopes.

The P.I.E trainees from Podar Jumbo Kids highlighted the importance of saying ‘No to Crackers’ through their skit. They urged the students to be sensitive to the environment and climate change. The need to celebrate a peaceful and green Diwali and to save earth from excessive noise and air pollution was the message imparted.

The assembly concluded with a traditional Diwali dance performed in colourful costumes. It set to live, foot tapping music and good cheer of the festival. Students understood the true message behind the festival which symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, victory of goodness over the evil.

Little Master Chefs - 2019

Cooking without fire activity in life skill period was held on 18th October 2019 in Podar International School, Ratnagiri for students of Grade IV and V. Kids made different kinds of sandwiches, fruit chaats, Sprouted Bhel.

Students gained valuable life skills by working independently to create and cook. Students inculcated in them confidence by presenting and speaking about their recipes. The atmosphere was filled with zeal, excitement,and spirit of learning. They displayed their talents and skills through this activity. Indeed it was a great experience for the students to gain knowledge and to create something novel by making delicious and healthy dishes.

Smart Tour 'Mamche ghar' - 2019

The concept of visiting dear uncle’s welcoming, warm house in the holidays is slowly becoming non-existent for children. But everyone needs such a place of affection where they can feel loved and relaxed. Reviving this experience Podar International School, Ratnagiri organized a one day Rustic Holiday for the students of Grades 1 to 8 to ‘Mamacha Gaon’ in Tural in Sangameshwar.

This is one of the ideal place for rejuvenating for the city dwellers. Students had real fun, played on the swings and ate and drank to their heart’s content. They enjoyed the rustic red roof Konkani houses, the red rustic walls and the big backyard of the house. They witnessed many artifacts and handicrafts from Kokan here.

The large forest land has beautiful two century old wada house. One can literally sit & listen to the 'talking' of the different species of birds found here. It’s a lovely place to experience tranquility of being with nature. It has many other mud houses with beautiful warli paintings. Students soaked the beauty of sun rays falling through the roof tops. Indeed it was a serene, relaxing and refreshing experience.

Assembly Activity 'World Mental Health Day' - 2019

Podar International School, Ratnagiri observed World Mental Health Day on 10thOctober, 2019. A special assembly was conducted with the intension to create awareness for the global community in an empathetic
Students of Grade VII performed a short skit depicting the varying levels of stress that students have to face. Many young students engage in different kinds of behaviour like teasing, bullying, cyber bullying and so on. This can be particularly difficult to manage.
Students and adults realised the need to handle situations by being calm, reflect on their behaviour and use the right words without hurting other’s emotions thus managing depression or anxiety. A mental health day can be useful on occasion, but everyone should also strive to make their mental health a priority every day.

Everyone with a unifying voice took an oath to help those feel hopeful by empowering them to take action and to create lasting change.

Special Assembly 'Dussehra Celebration' - 2019

To emphasize the significance of the victory of good over evil, a special assembly was presented by the energetic students of Aqua House on 9th October 2019
The assembly was commenced with the thought of the day that signified the victory of good over evil. This was followed by a short skit depicting the story of epic ’Ramayana’ and conveying the message of Dussehra . Everyone was spell bound by the presentation and listened to the story with great reverence. The skit highlighted the removal of bad qualities within us that is ‘Vijaya’ over the bad qualities; also known as Vijayadashami. Students understood that super Heroes are not only found in mythological stories, each one of us is a super hero in his or her own way. If we overcome the evil within us, then we can help make our society a better place to live in.
Thus commemorating the victory of Lord Rama over the demon Ravana and the triumph of good over evil, boys and girls of grade IV danced on the tune of Garbha, making the end of Navratri.
This assembly filled our hearts with courage and inspired everyone to stand and fight against evils.
