Newspaper Reading week - 2025

News That Made Us Think! @ PIS ICSE ISC NERUL

Newspaper Reading Week
08.07.2025 – 11.07.2025 | Grades V–VIII
Podar International School – ICSE/ISC, Nerul

Last week, our corridors buzzed not with breaking news alerts but with the soft rustle of newspaper pages and curious young minds at work!

As part of Newspaper Reading Week, students from Grades V to VIII immersed themselves in the world of current affairs, editorials, quirky facts, comic strips, and everything in between. What started as a simple classroom activity quickly turned into a deeper dive into the world outside their textbooks.

They explored:

  • Headlines that made them ask “Why?”
  • World news that helped them connect the dots globally
  • Editorials that sparked classroom debates
  • Puzzles and quizzes that tested sharp thinking

For many, this was a first brush with understanding bias, perspective, and the importance of source verification — skills that lie at the very heart of media literacy in the digital age.

What made the week truly special? Watching young readers go beyond the news — asking questions, forming opinions, and even challenging the way stories are told.

Here at PIS-ICSE-ISC Nerul, we don’t just read the paper.
We read into it.

Lakshay 3.0 - 2025

Lakshay 3.0 – A Session of Guidance and Inspiration

Lakshay 3.0 aimed to guide and motivate the present batch of Grade X students by inviting the toppers of the previous academic year to share their experiences, challenges, and success strategies related to the ICSE board examinations.

The specially curated programme commenced with a warm welcome by the hosts Ms. Kristy along with Sanchie and Chaitanya of Class IX, who set the tone of the session by introducing the purpose and significance of Lakshay 3.0. The respected Principal Dr. Bhushan Bonde, faculty members, students, and invited alumni graced the occasion with their presence.

A total of nine distinguished alumni (four of them currently in ISC), who had achieved remarkable results in the ICSE Board exams, participated in the session. These achievers, from both Science and Economics streams, were specially invited to share their firsthand insights on the preparation journey that led to their success.

During the interactive session, the alumni responded to various thoughtful and practical questions covering the following key areas:

  • Time Management: The toppers emphasized the importance of making small, realistic, and achievable study timetables. They recommended breaking down the syllabus into daily targets and sticking to the schedule with discipline.
  • Effective Use of Resources: It was suggested to fully utilize resources provided by teachers such as class notes, worksheets, and important questions. Solving previous years’ papers and sample papers from other schools was highlighted as an effective method to gain confidence and understand exam patterns.
  • Board Projects: A common advice was to complete all board projects well in advance to avoid unnecessary stress during exam months.
  • Stress Management: The alumni suggested following a balanced routine — nutritious food, hydration, sufficient sleep, and short study breaks to stay calm and composed.
  • Last-minute Preparation: Students were advised not to study new topics during the final days. Instead, they should focus on revision and concept clarity, especially for subjects like Science, Mathematics, History, and Geography.
  • Note-making: Preparing handwritten notes, formula sheets, and quick revision flashcards was shared as a useful tip to aid in last-minute recall.

Besides the practical advice, the toppers shared their personal challenges, moments of self-doubt, and how they overcame them. They highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, avoiding comparisons, and believing in one’s own preparation.

The honest sharing of personal experiences by the alumni made the event relatable, inspiring, and highly impactful. It not only provided practical study techniques but also instilled confidence and a sense of direction among the students.

The event began at 8 AM with a schedule full of enthusiasm. At Podar, we’ve always strived to create a space where students are inspired to dream big, work hard, and stay grounded. Learning here goes far beyond textbooks—our teachers mentor, guide, and often become that late-night friend during a moment of doubt. Today, we stand on the solid foundation of that commitment and dedication. It gives great pride and the absolute right to announce that Podar Nerul has secured the first position among all the Podar schools following the ICSE curriculum. With a 100% pass rate and an impressive number of our students scoring above 90%, including 91 students crossing that mark, the results are nothing short of commendable! This outstanding achievement is a testament to the students' effort and the school’s commitment to excellence. The ISC results were equally remarkable, with students finding direction and confidence, thanks to consistent mentoring and leadership. One student remarked that scoring above 90% was a "true reflection of dedication and effort."

Parents were invited to share their thoughts, and the hall resonated with gratitude and appreciation. One parent described the school as a "perfect environment – secure, fear-free, and family-like – which laid the foundation for success." Another praised the teachers for their constant support and guidance, stating that the school helped their child "find his direction with confidence." Words like "safe," "secured," "supportive," and "nurturing" were commonly echoed.

Students too expressed their heartfelt emotions. Many shared how the school atmosphere played a crucial role in building their confidence and guiding them through moments of self-doubt. One student mentioned how the teachers’ encouragement helped overcome challenges, calling the experience unforgettable. “Memories will be cherished,” said another.

The Principal Dr. Bhushan Bonde, in a motivating speech, acknowledged the hard work of students and teachers alike. Emphasizing discipline, perseverance, and consistent support, he praised the staff for being pillars of strength. He encouraged students to stay humble and grounded, advising them to “keep the learning spirit alive.” He also took a moment to appreciate the unwavering support of the parents, whose role in shaping the students’ journey was deeply acknowledged. “Behind every successful student stands a family that has sacrificed, encouraged, and believed in them,” he noted, thanking parents for being strong partners in education.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and light refreshments, leaving everyone inspired and proud. The felicitation ceremony was not just about celebrating marks but about honouring the journey, growth, and transformation of every child who stood tall with confidence and dreams.
